Bonsai and Suiseki National Exhibition Indonesia 2011: “Go Green Jakarta”

From  5th to 13th March 2011, Jakarta will host South East Asia’s biggest Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibition to date. Taking the theme “Go Green Jakarta”, The Bonsai and Suiseki National Exhibition Indonesia 2011 will feature some of the best works in Bonsai and Suiseki around the region. The event that will take place at the Gandaria City Platinum members parking area, will also include Bonsai creating demonstrations, Bonsai workshops and Bonsai video presentations.

Bonsai and Suiseki are exotic Asian arts that have gone worldwide and also flourish in Indonesia. The art of manipulating plant into its smaller version which came to known as Bonsai was first started in China; the Japanese absorbed the art ,  developed it for many years and spread it to the rest of the world, including to Indonesia. Suiseki also originated from China and developed further in Japan. Generally defined as the art of viewing stone, Suiseki represent a process, a feeling and a relationship between the object and the viewer. Stones can take many shape of mountains, lakes, waterfalls or other natural scenes, thus Suiseki represents nature in the palm of one’s hand.

“The exhibition is held after a long pause of large-scale events in terms of Bonsai and Suiseki in Indonesia. The forthcoming event is estimated to be the largest in ASEAN since it features exclusive collections of Bonsai and Suiseki in significantly large numbers” said Budi Sulistiyo, Chairman of Indonesia’s Bonsai Enthusiasts Association (PPBI). Furthermore, Budi also stated that the event will exhibit about 500 bonsai collections and 200 Suiseki Collections.

Minister for  Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik is scheduled to officially open the exhibition on Saturday, March 5th 2011. The event is estimated to draw visitors from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland, the Philippines and Taiwan, and also Bonsai and Suiseki enthusiasts from other countries.

As an exhibition of how nature and ancient techniques create splendid art works, The Bonsai and Suseki National Exhibition Indonesia 2011 is surely an event you can not afford to miss.
